Long Blue and Green Painting is from the group of work painted between 1950 and 1954 from the Walk Along the Quay series considered to be one of Frost's most iconic periods. Inspired by the study of boats in and around the harbour of St Ives, the central motif is a solid structure surrounded by abstracted symbols of hulls, sails and harbour life. Two very similar works, Green Black and White Movement 1951 and Black and White Movement 1952 are in the permanent collection of the Tate Gallery.
