Trained under Victor Pasmore at the Camberwell School of Art, Inlander was initially a landscape painter but later created his own form of gestural abstraction after contact with the Abstract Expressionists, Clyfford Still and Helne Frankenthaler when he won the Harkness Commonwealth Fellowship to the United States in 1960.
