The paintings that Feiler produced from 1954 in Cornwall were free, gestural abstractions infused with this quality of light reflected back from the sea. In the later years as in Porthcadjack Grey the works became more formal and less dependent on the observed world. He felt during this time very much a part of that team that had striven to make abstraction in art an accepted component in modern life, sharing with Peter Lanyon and others the sense of presenting the world with a new and relevant comment.
Porthcadjack is an isolated cove in Portreath; a small North west coast Cornish resort with a very narrow harbour located about 5 miles north of Redruth.
